Cultural Council for Palm Beach County

Cultural Council for Palm Beach County is a multi-faceted cultural organization with top priorities that include marketing the county for cultural tourism, advocating for cultural funding, supporting arts education and providing grants to cultural organizations and artists.

For 30 years, the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County has taken a leadership role in nurturing, promoting and celebrating the arts and cultural community in one of Florida’s largest and most diverse counties. Established in 1978 as the Palm Beach County Council of the Arts by visionary community leader Alexander W. Dreyfoos, Jr. (and renamed as the Cultural Council in 1992), the organization is officially recognized by the Board of County Commissioners as the county's advisory agency for cultural development and administers a portion of local tourist development funds under contract with county government.

The Council has been innovative and influential in creating funding mechanisms for cultural organizations and artists in the county. Its efforts led to voter approval of a tourism tax in 1982 that has provided over $36 million in cultural grants. In 2002, it played a key role in passing a $50-million bond issue for cultural and recreational facilities, the impact of which will be felt by residents in every corner of the county for decades to come.
