Founded in 1953 by a group of local citizens, the Lake Worth Playhouse was established as an institution that enriches lives by fostering a passion for the performing arts. Against all odds (hurricanes, economic challenges), the Playhouse persevered, bolstering its reputation as the premiere cultural arts venue in the heart of Lake Worth.
Sixty years later, that same community spirit and artistic passion continue to fuel the Playhouse mission: to provide entertainment, education and opportunities for artistic expression through volunteerism and community involvement.
Today, the Playhouse proudly offers diverse programming, educational opportunities and outreach initiatives that continue to enrich lives. On February 9th, 2013, The Lake Worth Playhouse will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a diamond jubilee on their esteemed stage. The evening will feature dining, dancing, a silent auction and special theatrical performances. The highlight of the diamond jubilee will feature the return of one of the Lake Worth Playhouse’s most accomplished alumni, Academy Award Nominee and national icon Mr. Burt Reynolds, who is scheduled to join the event as it’s guest of honor.
